Night Harvest 🌽🔪 Terrifying Horror Thriller Explained!:

Jack-O's Review:

"Love the pumpkin-headed scarecrow look and synth score. Acting is bad but the story kept me entertained. There's a funny sex scene and some nasty kills and practical effects. The old man seems to be the same old man character from Creeping Death (2024), not the same actor but same angry crotchety character with a shotgun being played." ★★½ Jack-O @trickhorrortreater

More Reviews:

"...writer/director Charlie Steeds delivers Night Harvest, a blend of Firestarter and Dark Night of the Scarecrow, with a dash of Friday the 13th: The New Blood thrown in for good measure...And Steeds has shown a talent for blending genres and delivering...a satisfying supernatural slasher with plenty of blood, scares, and some memorable kills. It may not reinvent the wheel, but it offers plenty of fun for fans of horror cinema, particularly those with a fondness for 80s-style slashers. It’s a good choice for a night in with friends, beers, and pizza." ★★★ VoicesFromTheBalcony.com

"Taking its cues from Pumpkinhead, Halloween (score-wise), a dash of Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Firestarter, this is a melting pot of ideas which largely holds together...with Night Harvest feeling like a...gory fun time. Matt Akers’ Halloween-esque score is a welcome addition, and the ensemble cast is down for whatever which makes this a fun watch that you don’t need to think too hard about." Bloody-Flicks.co.uk

"It's scarecrow vs firestarter in this low budget regional slasher from Tennessee. Delivers the slasher goods - bloody kills, practical effects, teenagers getting pitchforked after having sex. Recommended if you like no budget slashers and/or killer scarecrow movies." ★★★½ FakeVoorhees at letterboxd.com

"This movie is hilariously bad and I loved it! If the older guy on the cabin was played by Lance Henriksen this would be a 5 star movie!" ★★ Old Man Brad at letterboxd.com

"Way better than I thought it would be. A dark and evil pumpkin head scarecrow slasher with some brutal kills and cheesy dialogue but it worked. The acting is suspect but the premise and story are fairly well developed. The kills and the slasher character are the standouts in this. The kills are violent, bloody, well-timed and plentiful. The look of this scarecrow killer was dope and he had a menacing presence to him. The synth score hit hard as well. This one was a nice find and one I will def be coming back to for when the spooky season comes back around." ★★★ LEATH3RFACE at letterboxd.com

"This slasher is boring and derivative, but at least it's watchable." ★½ Ian Overton at letterboxd.com

Watch NIGHT OF THE HARVEST (2023) Free with Ads + Reviews — Once Every Year an Evil is Unleashed

"The Harvest is Eternal!"

Gravitas Ventures's Night of the Harvest (2023) is currently streaming free with ads on Tubi, Roku and Plex. The drama/horror/thriler was originally released on digital platforms on September 24, 2024, has a run time of 107 minutes and is not rated. The film screened at the Hollywood Independent Filmmaker Awards & Festival and won the Silver award for Best Narrative Horror Feature.

Night of the Harvest is described as "a spine-chilling thriller where masks and costumes aren't just for fun—they're part of a terrifying ritual. Prepare for a journey into the heart of fear, where every shadow hides an unknown threat and each twist reveals the mysteries behind the Harvest."

SYNOPSIS: A year after surviving a brutal attack, Madison is still grappling with the trauma of that night. Seeking a sense of normalcy, she reluctantly agrees to join her sister, Audrey, and her friends at a Halloween bash, hoping for a night of fun and distraction. But the festive atmosphere quickly turns deadly when a masked killer begins to hunt them down one by one. Madison must confront her deepest fears and uncover the sinister secrets that bind her to this horror.

The third horror feature film created by the Carter Ink Films team of Director Christopher M. Carter and Jessica Morgan (who also stars) from Carter’s screenplay. It also features Brittany Isabell, Aeric Azana, Jim Cirner, Taylor Noelle Falshaw, Ashton Jordann Ruiz, Autumn Gubersky and Michaela Ivey.

Carter has won several awards for directing and says his passion for the Halloween season is what brought the film to life. Exploring the roots of the ancient Samhain tradition and coupling that with a family dynamic is what inspired the story.

Jack-O's Review:

"Part slasher / part curse / part revenge indie film with a great Halloween feel but could have been shorter. They kill off the most interesting Halloween loving character first, a twist in the middle, then it's a sludge to get to the reveal at the end. I give it ★★." Jack-O @trickhorrortreater

More Reviews:

"The movie is very indie (we can’t stress enough how very indie it is). It’s full of bad acting and writing, but it’s also unintentionally funny and could be a great group watch around Halloween (it can easily be turned into a drinking game, if that’s your thing). It does check many "cult movie status” boxes in the same vein that The Room does…" CriticizeThis.com

" …there’s a retro feel to this one that harkens back to the 1980s or early ’90s. It has a nostalgic feel while still taking place in the present day. Night of the Harvest certainly isn’t a slasher masterpiece. Still, it’s an entertaining feature and an indie movie with a lot of blood, guts, and heart." 6/10 HorrorBuzz.com

"From the first piece of dialogue to the end credits – this film reeks of Halloween in the best way possible. I was also very impressed with the number of locations featured throughout the film and I don’t have any gripes with audio and editing. My only complaints are that some acting performances were much better than others, and the pacing/timing needed a little bit of work." 9 out of 10, HorrorSociety.com

Watch CREEPING DEATH (2023) Free with Ads + Reviews — Samhain Folklore Horror Unleashed

Creeping Death (2023) is currently streaming free with ads on Tubi. The supernatural slasher originally began streaming exclusively on Screambox September 10, 2024. It's All Hallows Eve in Asheville!

SYNOPSIS: Halloween was always Tim’s favorite holiday–until his mother was diagnosed with brain cancer. Now, all he wants is a quiet night in. That is quickly disrupted when his friends pay him an unwanted visit, after stealing a mysterious sack from the doorstep of a local crazy. This sacrilegious act unleashes the Aos Si, a Celtic spirit that walks the Earth on Halloween. They must band together and survive the night or make the ultimate offering–their lives--this Halloween, all who trick are treats.

Writter/Director Matt Sampere's feature debut, based on his short film of the same name (watch below). Sampere stars with Monique Parent, Alan Maxson, Delian Lincourt, Hunter Kohl, Ian Brown, Elise Rackemann, K Cody Hunt, Andy Horowitz, Jody Pucello and Scott Lea. Produced by Sampere, Jason Scott Goldberg, Erika McGowan, Brenda Block, and Tyler Dane Sutton.

"Since I was a kid, I’ve always loved slasher films and celebrating Halloween," says Sampere. "I knew I wanted to dive into the holiday’s lore for my first feature, and that’s how I learned about the Aos Si — vengeful spirits related to trick or treating in Celtic mythology. Creeping Death is the first supernatural slasher to incorporate this deity. I hope viewers enjoy my love letter to Halloween, its traditions, and a warning to those who trick."

"A call back to terrors birthed in the mythology, lore and atmospheric dread behind the Halloween traditions based in an ancient Celtic past."

Jack-O's Review:

"A good indie film with lots of Halloween atmosphere. The characters are annoying but the monster looks cool (reminds me of the demons from The Barn), it has pretty good gory kills and I liked the twist at the end. I also liked the monster's mythology story, it's something different than just having a guy in a mask killing people on Halloween night which has been done already. Definitely not a professionally made film but I enjoyed watching if you look past the low budget and bad acting. I'll give it ★★★!" Jack-O @trickhorrortreater

More Reviews:

"While it might not become a staple in your Halloween movie rotation, Creeping Death is still worth a watch for those looking to explore new horror films that celebrate the darker side of the holiday. There’s a lot of potential in Sampere’s concept, and with a bit more polish, it could have been something truly special. As it stands, it’s a fun, if somewhat flawed, love letter to Halloween and the slasher genre." CineDump.com

" …often interesting and affecting – and the monster is a nice design, well realised on a budget – but also often murky and literally hard to make out […] The heavy themes of Creeping Death and its overwhelmingly dark, drab look undermine its potential as a thrill ride, even before cynicism sets in and premature embitterment informs character choices made in the last act." JohnnyAlucard.com

"This movie brings a Scream vibe to the slasher, where there are some fun moments, but it isn’t a comedy. It deals with a cursed creature coming to life on Halloween in search of souls and the group of friends needing to escape. This has the bickering which tests friendships, and a well-crafted creature to hunt them down." ★★★ MovieReviews101.com

"The film stands as a testament to the power of indie filmmaking, meticulously crafted from the menacing antagonist to the atmospheric setting that perfectly frames this ghostly tale. Offering a unique spin on Halloween horror, Creeping Death is likely to linger in the minds of those who revel in a good scare, providing a fresh lens through which to view the reasons we fear the unseen." ★★★½ mailnewsgroup.com/ohmr/

"Enjoyed the practical effects- the makeup and character design of the killer was brilliant. Sadly how dark the film made it very hard to see a lot of the key scenes, there was a point I didn’t actually realise one of the characters had been injured because I couldn’t see it. Really enjoyed the music but could have done with being a little quieter." ★★★ PixieMel at letterboxd.com

"These are the themes at play in Sampere’s film, but unfortunately they are delivered through leaden dialogue and a set-up plagued with the sort of sound issues that suggest a film that was rushed for its première […] it does eventually offer graphic practical effects, stylised Halloween lighting and a striking antagonist…" ProjectedFigures.com
