Watch Free with Ads NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEB (2015) Happy 4th of July! +Reviews

Our 4th of July horror film of the week is...

Night of the Living Deb (2015) streaming free with ads on Tubi, Roku and Plex. Also on Prime (subscription needed). "It's a Rom-Zom-Com" released in the US on VOD, Blu-ray and DVD by Dark Sky Films on September 6, 2016.

SYNOPSIS: The morning after a drunken hookup on July 4, endearingly awkward Deb wakes up in the apartment of the most attractive guy in Portland, Maine. Pretty boy Ryan only knows it was a mistake and ushers her out the door into a full-scale zombie apocalypse.

Directed by Kyle Rankin (Infestation) from a screenplay by Andy Selsor, the film stars Michael Cassidy, Maria Thayer, Ray Wise, Chris Marquette (Freddy vs. Jason; Infestation) and Syd Wilder.

On March 6, 2014 Kyle Rankin and Michael Cassidy revealed via Kickstarter that they were producing a “Zom-Rom-Com”. Aside from a pledge video and later a sequel to the pledge video (watch both below), they also released the first 16 pages of the script online. Investors were given 30 days to raise $99,000 – but by April 5, 2014, they had raised over $100,000.

Jack-O's Review: "Funny dialogue had me chuckling throughout the whole film, kept me interested, never boring. The setup reminds me of Shaun of the Dead set in Portland, Maine with a twist on zombie lore at the end. Mostly a light fun comedy, very little horror besides the look of bloody zombies, shocking old lady zombie, zombies getting run over by car and zombies being shot in the head. Not Romero style gore but tame CGI gore thats nothing impressive or over the top. Takes place on 4th of July and one scene in a Christmas store. I had fun watching, I'll give it ★★★ = Good" @trickhorrortreater

More Reviews:

"This is supposed to be a play on the ancient trope of opposites attract, but ends up being more of an hour and a half watching two characters who are each completely obnoxious in opposite ways...They do provide an opportunity for some truly tasteless jokes, a couple of funny zombie kills (including Death By The Clapper), and a basic raison d’etre that barely drives the thin plot forward...It’s by far not the worst zombie film I’ve ever seen, but it’s not as funny as it thinks it is or as funny as it should be. If you’re a fan of romzomcoms you will undoubtedly like this better than I did, so don’t let my curmudgeonly opinion get you down." ChickFlickingReviews.com.com

"If you are a fan of zombies, comedy, and a little romance, Night of the Living Deb is certainly for you. I wouldn’t recommend it for you hardcore gore freaks out there, but there is plenty of other stuff floating around for you… leave this one for the other guys!" ★★★½ RepulsiveReviews.com

"The zombie action in this film is largely mild, and those scenes are played for comedic effect. The film is missing the unabashed gore which helped similar-toned film Shaun of the Dead reach legitimate fanfare amongst hardcore horror fans. This will help Deb be more of a company-friendly film but will be less likely to appease longtime genre fans. Overall, I quite enjoyed this one and I look forward to future films staring the captivating Maria Thayer." ★★★★ BmovieGeek.com

"If the performances are on point, so is the script. Penned by first-time screenwriter Andy Selsor, Night of the Living Deb‘s script is peppered with some incredibly witty observations, a rather subversive undertone and (near the knuckle) jokes which poke self-referential fun at the film, its characters and the very genre in which this inhabits." ★★★★★ Nerdly.co.uk

"The dialogue in Night of the Living Deb is snappy and the banter between the leads is brisk and nothing short of endearing...In the end, Deb finds her happy ending – after all, it’s a RomZomCom." HellNotes.com

"Highlight is the easy viewing and comedy, not being over the top, dialogue being top notch and acting great. One scene involving a woman in lingerie bouncing on the bed which was mistaken for sex noises did have me red in the face. Maybe I’ve grown out of that sort of humour, although I found the reaction of the bloke downstairs hilarious (tearing a sandwich apart as he wanted to ‘bang her’ again). It’s smart and witty and not too complicated. We get the happy ever after. Touched my heart on more than one occasion because I am a big softie. Do I recommend this? Yes, I do, if you like zombie, comedy, romance or horror, then consider it. I think of this like a more feminine version of zombie movies simply because of the focus on the woman." Rating: 4.8/5 PsychedelicWizard.wordpress.com

"This film is probably not for hardcore horror fans, since it is never really scary. There is explicit language and sexual references, but very little gore for a zombie film. There is comedy, a decent plot and quality performances. Also, refreshingly the heroine stays fully clothed for the entire film and doesn't have magically perfect hair and makeup while fighting to stay alive. Night of the Living Deb is a fun romantic comedy with added zombies. It would make a decent movie for a date night, provided your date isn't really squeamish." WeekendNotes.com

"Night of the Living Deb is mostly inoffensively bland entertainment, limiting the blood and gore of the genre. A bit more edginess may have made the film more memorable, but then again, so would an original idea for the screenplay." 4/10 RizayReviews.com

Holidays (2016) is currently streaming on SHUDDER if you have a subscription. The Easter segment is a must watch for Easter weekend. Watch the Easter clip and scene below under the trailer if you don't have a subscription and don't mind spoilers. Happy Easter!

HOLIDAYS had its world premiere at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival on April 14th, followed by a global day-and-date release on digital and VOD platforms on April 15th, 2016, and then a U.S. theatrical run that started on April 22nd, 2016. The film was produced by John Hegeman's Distant Corners Entertainment in association with XYZ Films, and is distributed by Vertical Entertainment and XYZ Films.

IMDb SYNOPSIS: HOLIDAYS is an anthology feature film that puts a uniquely dark and original spin on some of the most iconic and beloved holidays of all time. The film challenges our folklore, traditions and assumptions, making HOLIDAYS a celebration of the horror on those same special days' year after year. A collaboration of some of Hollywood's most distinct voices.

Starring Harley Quinn Smith, Lorenza Izzo, Seth Green, Clare Grant, Michael Gross. Directed by Kevin Smith (Tusk), Gary Shore (Dracula Untold), Scott Stewart (Dark Skies), Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer (Starry Eyes), Sarah Adina Smith (The Midnight Swim), Nicholas McCarthy (The Pact), Adam Egypt Mortimer (Some Kind of Hate), and Anthony Scott Burns (Darknet).

What About the Easter Bunny? Easter Clip:

Easter Bunny Jesus Scene:

St. Patrick's Day Teaser:

Christmas Clip:

Jack-O's Review: "My favs are the Father's Day segment has a great build up but a disappointing ending. Kevin Smith's Halloween segment could have taken place on any night, the story isn't really Halloween related. I loved the Easter Bunny Jesus, looks creepy as hell, but I actually liked the Valentine's Day revenge segment the best. Christmas and New Years Eve segments ends the film with a couple of good twists. Other segments were ok, I didn't enjoy as much. ★★★ = Good!" @trickhorrortreater

More Reviews:

"...not bad enough to dissuade prospective viewers’ from their curiosity. In fact, the whole feather-light affair is practically redeemed by a single entry: writer/director Anthony Scott Burns' superbly spooky Father's Day segment…" ★★ Simon Abrams, RogerEbert.com

"an anthology featuring segments from the directors of Dracula Untold, Tusk, Dark Skies, The Pact, and other recent horror movies of varying critical reception. That inconsistency similarly plagues Holidays, held together by the loosest of frameworks and featuring several segments that seem to have been retrofitted to the theme. When patterns do appear, it's for the worse." AVClub.com

"As for the short films themselves, some are stronger than others but it's important to note that Holidays rocks quality filmmaking across the board. Production value is generally sky high and most of the pieces feature clever concepts backed by palpable enthusiasm from the filmmakers. The only issue that does crop up in some segments is a weak punchline." Grade: B Collider.com

"...none of the contributions (Smith's excepted, ironically) feel like they were made simply to satisfy the thematic requirements of an anthology project. Each carries the inspiration and dedication to its specific story of an original short film, and if the lack of a framing device (beyond greeting-card bumpers after each) means the movie plays more like a shorts festival than a unified feature, there's also a good side to that." Fangoria.com

"Holidays is a fun romp with flashes of brilliance ...With plenty of dusty corners of YouTube offering bite-sized scares, it may seem less necessary to round up sharp minds with succinct ideas and small budgets. But the visions of these directors are so uniquely film that it adds a depth and scope to each nasty little morsel." Grade: B+ Indiewire.com

"On the whole, Holidays might take a little getting used to – at least it did for me – but it's still a pretty solid new addition to the new wave of new wave of anthologies hitting festivals and theatres and I'd definitely be up for another outing..." ★★★½ ScreamHorrorMag.com
