This Saint Patrick's Day Halloween An Ancient Irish Curse Will Awaken!
Curse of Crom: The Legend of Halloween (2022) is currently streaming free with ads on Tubi, YouTube, Roku, Plex, and Fawesome. The throwback family friendly PG-13 horror film originally began streaming in October 2022.
IMDb SYNOPSIS: High school teenagers accidentally unleash an ancient Irish entity on their hometown and must stop it before midnight on Halloween.
Written by Scott Baird and Rob York, directed by Rob York and starring Chelsea Jurkiewicz, Tanner Gillman, Colin Cunningham, Halem Medina, Ari Bagley, and Monica Moore Smith. Poster artwork by Marc Schoenbach at Sadist Art Designs.
Director Rob York describes the film as “gateway horror paying homage to the style of classic 80’s movies like The Goonies, Monster Squad and Poltergeist. We wanted to capture the atmosphere and fun of the films that traumatized us as kids. Everything was done practically, using cable and rod puppets, water tank optical effects, and lots of slime.”

Jack-O's Review: A fun family friendly gateway horror indie film. It's like a PG-13 Goosebumps movie, no cursing, no gore, no nudity, monster effects look decent, some funny lines and I love the Halloween vibes. I think the opening credits scene was shot by Witching Season Films, very much like their Halloween atmosphere videos. I'll rate it ★★★ out of five. Good. "Curse of Crom: The Legend of Halloween (also known as Curse of Crom) feels like a kiddie movie made by horror fans. You find yourself rooting for it despite yourself. There’s something about the creature, and the lore, that shows some care was given. It’s giving Are You Afraid of The Dark? and Goosebumps, mixed in with some Poltergeist and The Goonies. However, there is something just left of the center stopping it from hitting its mark... The humor is also aimed at kids but comes across as cloying to anyone older than 10. One of the things I think hurts this movie is that it is playing down to children. However, today’s kids are smarter than most of these jokes... Curse of Crom is a Kickstarter-funded project. So we also have to remember that might be where some of the issues arise out of funding. It felt like there were missing scenes, or moments, to lead into some of the more dramatic turns... Another thing hurting Curse of Crom is the simple misfortune of coming out in a year that gave us stronger PG-13 horror entries. Umma, The Curse of Bridge Hollow, and even Spirit Halloween: The Movie came to family night with something for everyone. To varying degrees of success, they all showed up to the kiddie horror pool but managed to stand out. Whereas, the main draw for Curse of Crom is that it feels like it was made by people who studied the kid horror fodder from the 80s and 90s. Those eras were moments, and a throwback to that time is a cool idea. However, the execution didn’t stick the landing... It’s a movie for the kids but has the spirit of a movie you want to root for. "Smashing pumpkins aside, I feel this film was created with real love for the horror/childhood adventures of the '80s and '90s epoch. The creature/ghost in this film is, uh, really good! Like. Uh, I wasn't expecting it but I really shouldn't be surprised - based on the quality of the rest of the film. So, while this may have hit me in the feels, personally, I stand by my being impressed with this little wonder representing a new generation of the joy of childhood triumph in adventure, fears, and building friendships. This is prefect for your too smart for their own good teenagers, particularly if they are showing interest in horror or any creative outlet. Hat's off to Curse of Crom: The Legend of Halloween! The effective human relationships are an interesting contrast to the horror-comedy elements, as the pedestrian scares and lacklustre gags fall short. My only beef is the storyline with Mary’s parents; a little too serious for a film like this. It felt out of place. "Curse of Crom: The Legend of Halloween offers up lightweight thrills and a muddled investigative horror story. Likable characters elevate this low stakes teen horror movie to a comfortable, occasionally funny, viewing experience... Curse of Crom: The Legend of Halloween ticks a few boxes that other lower budget teen horror films struggle with. It finds likable unknown actors and puts them into a fine Halloween aesthetic. It doesn’t strive for anything more than light thrills, but it is enough fun to make something of it... The aforementioned family drama story is Curse of Crom at its worst. Every scene involved in the suplot is fundamentally flawed. It would be one thing if there was just one or two moments where you were annoyed that characters just stand still not explaining themselves…but it happens every scene and is infuriating. The script required a certain amount of family strife and secrets to pay off its plot. The way they go about it is to make every character involved look very stupid as they are unable to explain any plot point or emotion though repeatedly asked... Curse of Crom is an ultra low stakes affair. It would probably play well as a family film. The monster is rarely seen. There are only a few lightly suspenseful scenes. It’s likely too slow moving to hold a young watcher’s attention, however. The movie spends a lot of time on its investigation... Eventually we get all our answers. It’s all convoluted and pretty silly. But, again, Curse of Crom is smart enough to have fun with it. There are simply a few too many missed opportunities to deliver a well-rounded fun family flick. What’s here amounts to more of an inoffensive one... There are better movies out there than Curse of Crom: The Legend of Halloween. There are also far worse ones. It would benefit from a better plotted family drama and the investigation results being delivered in a more dynamic way. Still, a lot of the movies of its type tend to overload themselves with unlikable characters and poor direction. "The Rob York directed and co-written Curse of Crom: The Legend of Halloween gave off some real Stranger Things vibes to me, some of which just had to be purposeful. The cast of 'teenagers' may look like adults in their mid-twenties, but the film retained a fun charm to it, though its distinct lack of threat might put some people off... Any film that takes place around Halloween is welcome, and here that vibe is well represented with all manner of Halloween decorations and pumpkins, while the autumn leaves blowing around the town really gave me a vibe of the classic Halloween. In terms of the characters, outside of the blatant fact none of them were played by teenagers, they were a fun bunch, if reliant on stereotypes. Most distracting was Harvey who looked and acted like a cut-price version of Steve from Stranger Things... The actual moments of horror are the weakest element of this film sadly, with Crom looking decent enough for a Buffy the Vampire Slayer monster of the week, but not feeling like much of a genuine threat... It was the type of plot where the characters seem to invent the antagonists intentions and then act accordingly, with no real evidence to support their beliefs... Curse of Crom: The Legend of Halloween was an enjoyable teen horror film that had a mostly great cast of characters. With a bigger kill count, and with a simplified explanation of what the monster was and its intentions this would have benefitted. As it was, this wasn't bad, but the weak antagonist isn't something that is likely to stick in the mind.
