Curse of Crom: The Legend of Halloween (2022) is currently streaming free with ads on Tubi, YouTube, Roku, Plex, and Freevee. The throwback family friendly PG-13 horror film originally began streaming in October 2022.

Director Rob York describes the film as “gateway horror paying homage to the style of classic 80’s movies like The Goonies, Monster Squad and Poltergeist. We wanted to capture the atmosphere and fun of the films that traumatized us as kids. Everything was done practically, using cable and rod puppets, water tank optical effects, and lots of slime.”

Jack-O's Review: A fun family friendly gateway horror indie film. It's like a PG-13 Goosebumps movie, no cursing, no gore, no nudity, monster effects look decent, some funny lines and I love the Halloween vibes. I think the opening credits scene was shot by Witching Season Films, very much like their Halloween atmosphere videos. I'll rate it ★★★ out of five. Good. "I was hyped for this movie but went home and went to watch it and it kept stuttering and the audio was off it was a horrible experience no offense... and it was over dramatic in some parts for no reason like at the beginning with the killer chase and just throwing his arms around. The acting wasn't too good either. I don't want to come off to harsh the art and cover are good and it's a good idea but bad take on it. All do respect I thought it was going to be better and I gave my hopes up I spent 20$ on something that went into the garbage. Please do better and stop selling until you get the disc to not stutter and have better quality. Thank you. "Elaborate dancing with triple bladed crescent knives. Perverted papirazzian psych major in a pink hat. Loud musical cues to make you jump out of your skin. Screamwalkers is a sov horror comedy that has its own unique feel. That feel? Absurdness mixed with a genuine feel of old school sov horror. The absurdness comes from the comedy aspect and personally, I’m not a fan. Nothing against this movie at all. I’m just not a huge fan of comedy infused horror. With that being said, I still enjoyed Screamwalkers. It has lots of different things going on and the detective/investigation subplot was awesome. We have Jason with Freddy’s glove, a person in a cat mask made to look like Ghostface, and a goddamn Mummy. It seems like a bunch of friends got together, decided to make a horror movie, and just had fucking fun with it. I had fun with them too. "Sharp, stylized, witty and very, very entertaining!! A shot on analog video movie that absolutely embodies the very very best of that niche of genre film. Never does the film allow itself to slip into “it’s supposed to be a B movie, so who cares” territory. Every frame drips with care, attention and love. If not for a few contemporary props the director chose to use such as a smartphone, one could easily believe this was an overlooked gem made during the 90s shot-on-video era. I enjoyed several really inventive shots in the film such as a “double vision” effect, and a scene where blood drips on a camera, and we then see the shot from the perspective of said camera, with blood dripping down a pane of glass placed in front of the camera. Witching Season Films was started in 2015 by filmmaker Michael Ballif, whose first project under the brand was a five-episode Halloween anthology, The Witching Season. Directed by Ballif and James Morris, the series had several viral hits on YouTube, went on to receive physical distribution through Scream Team Releasing, and landed a long-term spot on multiple streaming services such as Amazon Prime and Tubi.
In 2020, Witching Season Films released their first feature-length movie, They Live Inside Us (written and directed by Michael Ballif, starring James Morris), which went on to screen at numerous festivals, win several awards, and receive a global distribution deal from film giant Gravitas Ventures.
Now, in 2021, the company has begun production on their second feature-film, He Never Left (written and directed by James Morris), which tells the story of Gabriel, a fugitive hiding out in a rundown motel, who after hearing strange noises from an adjoining room, accidentally becomes the target of a notorious killer who’s legend has haunted the local community for decades.
OUR STORY CONTINUES:
Our tight-knit team of passionate, Halloween & horror-loving filmmakers have been hard at work deciding what project would come next. The global pandemic was (and continues to be) a major factor in many of the decisions made over the last couple of years, delaying multiple projects and throwing a wrench into numerous things we had hoped to get moving on.
However, for the past year, James Morris has been hard at work on a new concept, which was officially approved by founder Michael Ballif, and is now in pre-production with a hopeful release of late 2022.
The film is Written & Directed by James Morris and produced by Morris and Michael Ballif. Ballif will also be reprising his role as Cinematographer. The film will feature a new, terrifying score by Composer Randin Graves. Witching Season veterans Sadie Ballif, Allen Bradford, Hailey Nebeker, Jordan Swenson, and Samuel Morris are also returning. The film features an original and haunting mask created and designed by the one and only Billy-James of Open Grave FX. Taking everything we have learned from both The Witching Season and They Live Inside Us, our team is excited to create a new, terrifying installment in the Witching Season Films saga.
We at Witching Season Films have spent years trying to bring you (our audience) nostalgic, exciting, and often free content, and although we have come a long way, we are still turning to the passionate indie-horror community to help bring this project to life.
WHAT WE NEED:
We've completed the opening sequence, but now we need to make the rest of the film. We are hoping to raise a starter fund of $15,000, which would allow us to fully-fund the basic needs.
We are planning to move into production in the early Spring of 2022.
Followers of our previous work know the type of quality we can achieve with very little, and we have always taken great pride in our transparency and refusal to inflate our production with unnecessary expenditures.
Obviously, the more we can raise the better, and any additional funds over-goal will absolutely be utilized directly into production, but starting small has never been a problem for us.
