I don’t know about you, but here where I live, we’ve just felt the first chill in the air—trees changing, leaves beginning to fall, and that golden glow that makes autumn so magical. As tradition on this channel, I’m here to recommend some movies that capture the autumn atmosphere—pumpkins, sweaters, crunching leaves, and golden hues.
These aren’t Halloween movies (that list will be coming in October), but there is a healthy dose of spookiness sprinkled in.
Few films feel as “autumn” as M. Night Shyamalan’s The Village. Warm colors, bare trees, and blowing leaves bring a rustic Pennsylvania village to life. Beyond its atmosphere, it’s a heartfelt story about love, simplicity, and fear of the unknown. Bryce Dallas Howard gives a stunning performance that elevates this romance-drama with just enough spooky lore to make it perfect for fall viewing.
Set in the quaint seaside town of Mystic, Connecticut, Mystic Pizza is a cozy coming-of-age drama/romantic comedy that perfectly captures New England in the harvest season. Julia Roberts, Lily Taylor, and even a young Matt Damon headline this charming story about love, friendship, and finding your place in life. Small-town vibes don’t get better than this.
What’s more autumn than pumpkins — especially a demonic pumpkin-headed monster? This Stan Winston–directed horror gem dives into backwoods swamps, eerie pumpkin patches and golden grass fields. Lance Henriksen gives an emotional performance in this chilling tale of grief, vengeance, and supernatural consequences. Perfectly spooky for a chilly October night.
Stephen King and George Romero team up for this dark, atmospheric thriller about a writer haunted by his murderous pseudonym. Timothy Hutton shines in dual roles, while overcast skies, crunching leaves, and barren trees set a perfect fall backdrop. It’s unsettling, weird, and deeply autumnal.
Joe Dante’s Small Soldiers blends suburban nostalgia with a dash of fall charm. Though light on leaves, its Octoberfest banners, warm sweaters, and cozy ‘90s small-town vibes make it a great comfort watch. Plus, the voice talents of Tommy Lee Jones and Frank Langella bring these battling toys to life in a way that still holds up.
Directed by David Gordon Green (Halloween '2018, Halloween Kills, Halloween Ends), this indie romance bathes every frame in golden fall hues. Starring Paul Schneider and Zooey Deschanel, it’s an honest, vulnerable exploration of first love in a sleepy North Carolina mill town. Sweaters, crisp air, and vibrant trees make this one of the most authentic fall films you’ll ever see.
Dark woods, barren trees, and occult rituals — Pyewacket is one of the scariest autumn films you can watch. It tells the story of a grieving teen who invokes something she can’t control, with chilling results. Fall décor, Halloween vibes, and genuinely creepy scares make it a must-watch for horror fans craving atmosphere.
Not cozy by any stretch, but if you’re into true crime vibes in autumn, Henry is devastating, disturbing, and unforgettable. Michael Rooker delivers a chilling performance in this loosely based real-life killer story set in Chicago. Surprisingly bright autumn visuals contrast the bleak subject matter, making it hauntingly effective.
Alfred Hitchcock’s The Trouble with Harry is arguably the coziest fall movie ever made. Set in a small Vermont town, this comedy about a group of townsfolk trying (and failing) to discreetly bury a body is both hilarious and charming. Vibrant autumn colors explode across the screen — so much so that the crew actually glued leaves back onto trees during filming. It’s the ultimate comfort watch for the season.

Late Night With The Devil (2023) – Streaming on Shudder
Set in 1977, this supernatural horror film plays out as a live late-night TV broadcast gone horribly wrong. Hosted by David Dastmalchian (in a fantastic leading role), Late Night With The Devil is full of retro late-night talk show vibes... with a demonic twist.
Yes, there was some minor controversy over AI imagery, but honestly, this movie deserves attention for its clever style, creepy atmosphere, and pure Halloween-season mood. Think: costumes, pumpkins, and supernatural chaos beamed right into your living room.
Idle Hands (1999) – Streaming on YouTube (3.59 rental)
Nostalgic 90s horror-comedy fans, this one’s for you. Idle Hands is a raunchy, bloody stoner comedy where a lazy teen’s possessed hand goes on a murder spree.
Devin Sawa, Seth Green, and Jessica Alba bring the laughs and Halloween spirit. There’s gore, there’s humor, and there’s even a costume party featuring Offspring performing live. It’s dumb fun… and that’s exactly the point.
If you love creature features, Pumpkinhead remains one of the all-time greats. Directed by special effects legend Stan Winston and starring Lance Henriksen, this tale of grief and vengeance unleashes one of horror’s most iconic monsters.
The atmosphere is thick, the monster design is incredible, and while it’s not strictly a Halloween movie, the title alone earns it a place on your October watchlist. Foggy woods, witchy curses, and rural horror—this is Halloween material through and through.

A group of friends sets out in an RV looking for the most extreme haunts in America… and stumble into something much more sinister. What makes this movie especially creepy is its mix of real haunt interviews and documentary-style realism.
If you’ve ever wondered “What if one of these haunts went too far?”—this movie’s your answer.
Closing out this list is Hell Fest, a popcorn slasher set inside a massive Halloween carnival.
The production design is pure Halloween eye candy—mazes, scare actors, creepy rides, and of course… a masked killer stalking the guests. Written by Aela Cooper (who also co-wrote Malignant and M3GAN), this one doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it’s a blast for a laid-back horror movie night.

Welcome to All Hallows’ Eve, Blessed Samhain, and Happy Halloween to all! This is the magical time of year when the veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest—which means two things:
1. You might just be communicating with ghosts.
2. You’re definitely on the hunt for the perfect Halloween movies to watch.
That’s why here at The Cobwebs Channel, I’m excited to share my top 10 Halloween movies you might not have heard of. If you’re brave enough, grab your candy, settle in, and let’s dive in.
But first, a couple quick disclaimers:
* These movies actually take place during Halloween season. You’ll see a lot of Halloween movie lists with great films that have nothing to do with the holiday itself. Not here!
* No super obvious picks. So… no Trick ‘r Treat, no Halloween franchise entries, no Hocus Pocus, no The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. If it has a dedicated section at Spirit Halloween, it’s not on this list.

Kenny & Company (1976)
Directed by Don Coscarelli (yes, the guy behind Phantasm), this is a sweet coming-of-age film that captures the real childhood build-up to Halloween. Follow 12-year-old Kenny and his friends as they navigate bullies, first crushes, and costume prep leading up to Halloween night.
The third act delivers a genuinely scary scene that actually inspired Coscarelli to make Phantasm afterward. This one’s hard to find, but you can watch it on YouTube.
Hot rods, haunted mansions, and…drag racing teens in monster masks? This campy horror-comedy follows a teen car club who throws a monster-themed costume party, only to discover a real monster lurking among them.
It’s goofy, packed with 1950s slang, and unexpectedly ahead of its time with a female lead who loves cars and drags the guys right along with her. Currently streaming on Amazon Prime.
Low budget? Yes. Better than you’d expect? Absolutely. After a bullied teen bleeds on a jack-o-lantern and makes a vengeful wish, he unleashes a demonic clown called The Trickster.
What follows is a surprisingly dark, violent, and creepy coming-of-age horror story packed with creative monster designs. Watch it for free on The Roku Channel (with ads) or rent it elsewhere.
This little-known gem dives into ancient Irish folklore, tying Halloween back to its Celtic roots. A group of high schoolers accidentally unleashes an Irish death god called Crom and must send it back before midnight.
It’s more family-friendly than most on this list, with great fall atmosphere and strong production values for an indie film. Streaming on Peacock and other platforms.
A Nickelodeon-produced Halloween teen comedy starring Victoria Justice and Jane Levy. On Halloween night, a teenage girl loses her little brother while trying to get to a party hosted by her crush.
While it’s more comedy than horror, it’s packed with Halloween costumes, decorations, and mischief. Think Can’t Hardly Wait, but with more trick-or-treating.
Forget the baboon horror angle this movie starts with—Primal Rage turns into full-blown rage-virus chaos leading up to an epic Halloween party finale.
The costumes, the live 80s band, the glowing-eyed skeleton attackers—this movie is dripping with Halloween vibes. Recently restored in 4K by Vinegar Syndrome, it’s also streaming on Shudder.
A 10-story horror anthology set entirely on Halloween night, featuring ghosts, monsters, and plenty of creative kills.
With directors like Neil Marshall, Lucky McKee, and Darren Lynn Bousman, plus appearances from horror icons like Adrienne Barbeau, this is the only indie Halloween anthology I’ll wholeheartedly recommend besides Trick ‘r Treat.
Personal favorite segment? Sweet Tooth—a new Halloween legend in the making.
Adapting the iconic children’s horror book series, this PG-13 horror adventure set in 1968 Pennsylvania perfectly nails the fall small-town aesthetic.
Kids unleash a witch’s cursed book, and one by one, urban legend-style monsters come after them—like the terrifying scarecrow from my favorite segment.
This is like a creepier, meaner cousin to the Goosebumps movie. A must-watch every October.
A masked killer stalks guests at a Halloween horror theme park, where everyone assumes the blood and screaming is part of the show...until it isn’t.
This one’s packed with slasher energy, creative kills, and an unbeatable Halloween haunted attraction vibe. The set design alone makes it worth watching, and the final scene will stick with you.
My new obsession. Cobweb was sadly buried by the Barbenheimer box office storm, but this is pure Halloween perfection.
Set in late October, it follows a young boy terrorized by a voice coming from inside his bedroom wall. With parents who may be hiding dark secrets, a terrifying creature reveal, and a third act drenched in Halloween masks and mayhem, this is like a grim, twisted Halloween fairy tale.
