What's on Tonight: NATTY KNOCKS (2023) with Robert Englund, Bill Moseley, and Danielle Harris

From the Director of "Halloween 4" comes a new horror/thriller starring horror icons Robert Englund, Bill Moseley, and Danielle Harris, Natty Knocks (2023) will release day and date by Vertical on July 21, 2023. The Knock Knock Films production also stars Charlotte Fountain-Jardim, Thomas Robie, Noen Perez and Jason James Richter.

Directed by Dwight H. Little (Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988), Phantom of the Opera (1989), Freddy’s Nightmares TV episode) from a screenplay written by Benjamin Olson. Produced by Danielle Harris, Sandy Little, Benjamin Olson and Jason James Richter. Executive produced by Vineesha Arora-Sarin and Amit Sarin.

SYNOPSIS: On the eve of Halloween a small-town babysitter (Charlotte Fountain-Jardim) and the kids she is looking after struggle to survive a serial killer named Abner Honeywell (Bill Moseley), who is himself the traumatized son of B-movie horror legend known as ‘Natty Knocks’.

Reviews:

“Natty Knocks has a lot of good twists and turns, with numerous characters having more to them than we see at first glance. There’s a fair amount of detective work, scares, peril, and general intrigue to keep us invested, along with enough blood to make this inarguably a horror movie. Director Little maintains a pleasingly creepy pre-Halloween look.” Grade: B, AssignmentX.com

“Strangely enough, the off-kilter mix of supernatural elements with creeping serial killer voyeur almost works. However, in attempting to do too many things at once, Natty Knocks needlessly overcomplicates what should have been simple and fun. With a focus solely on Honeywell, Natty Knocks could transform into a Black Phone-esque chiller; the witchy Natty stalking and killing folks by way of her ghostly, traumatized presence would be another in a long line of hauntings.” 2.5 out of 5, JoshattheMovies.com

“The film started off really strong, but then things died down a little bit while we waited for the kids to stumble upon everything. At times, it felt a little filler, but we eventually got back on track and I thought that the film finished strong so this wasn’t a major con.” TVFanatic.blog

“Natty Knocks could have used more supernatural elements throughout the story to make the end feel more earned. With Britt further possessed by the end, the movie takes an interesting turn, but it feels like we’re watching the start of a different movie.” Wherever-I-Look.com

Japanese A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET Franchise (1984-2003) VHS Covers

In honor of Robert Englund's birthday today, I'm gonna see how long I can stay awake watching A Nightmare on Elm Street movie marathon on VHS. I have all the films on official VHS releases except A New Nightmare which I recorded on a bootleg VHS from when I ordered it on Pay Per View way back when it was released, probably in 1995. And I have Freddy VS Jason on DVD. Part 2 is actually my favorite. I always thought Freddy and the music/sound effects in part 2 were way more scarier then they are in the other parts of the franchise. Japanese VHS covers below from nightmareonelmstreetfilms.com:

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) 3 VHS covers:

A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985) 2 VHS covers:

Watch FREDDY's HALLOWEEN NIGHTMARES (1988-89) on VHS

Promos:

Freddy's Nightmares (also known as A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Series) is an American horror anthology television series, which aired in syndication from October 1988 until March 1990. A spin-off from the A Nightmare on Elm Street film series, each episode is introduced by Freddy Krueger (played, as in the films, by Robert Englund), and features two different stories of a dark rooted and/or grim nature that takes place in the fictitious town of Springwood, Ohio on Elm Street. Krueger's primary function is to host the series. Eight episodes throughout the series have Freddy Krueger as the main antagonist. The pilot episode was directed by Tobe Hooper, and begins with Krueger's prosecution on child-murdering charges.

I remember being really excited to watch this series when I found out about it in TV Guide in the late 80's. I had a blank VHS ready to record every episode. The pilot episode called "No More Mr. Nice Guy" was so great, the capture, trial and murder of Freddy Kruger I loved it. Hugely disappointed by the 2nd week and weeks after when I found out that most of the stories weren't about Freddy he just hosted them like the Crypt Keeper from Tales from the Crypt. The two Halloween episodes are part of the 8 that feature Freddy in the story. I would rewatch these episodes constantly on the old VHS that I still have.

El Rey Network has been airing the series since November 3, 2015. On February 15, 2022, the series was available on Screambox, a streaming service dedicated to horror content. The series started streaming on Tubi on May 1, 2022, but the content is currently unavailable. Low Quality videos of Season 1 and Season 2 have been uploaded to archive.org.

Spend Halloween with Freddy! Watch two promos above or both Halloween episodes of Freddy's Nightmares ripped from a 1980's vhs in the video below from archive.org. First episode is 1989's "Photo Finish" followed by 1988's "Freddy's Tricks and Treats" which the beginning of was cut off. High quality versions were available at tubitv.com here and here but have been removed. My fan made VHS cover at the top and I remember cutting out that exact TV Guide ad and taping it on the box of the VHS cassette I used to record the series.

Here is the full uncut episode "Freddy's Tricks and Treats" though the video quality isn't that great. Watch all Season 1 episodes at archive.org:

Watch full episode "Photo Finish" below or watch Season 2 episodes at archive.org:

VHS/DVD/BLU-RAY RELEASE: The full complete series was never released to DVD or Blu-ray in the US but 5 episodes were released on VHS in 1991. 16 episodes were released on 8 VHS's in the UK and Germany in 1989. In 2003, Volume 1 (the first 3 episodes) was released on Region 2 DVD in Ireland and the UK. Volume 2 and Volume 3 was also planned but the release was canceled due to poor sales. The 2011 US release Blu-ray box set of the original seven A Nightmare on Elm Street films had a special features DVD that included two episodes ("It's a Miserable Life" and "Killer Instinct"). In 2022, all episodes translated into German were published in Germany by Pidax.

Below are the five VHS front covers (animated GIF) which contains the episode titles that were released in the US:
