Jack-O's Review: "There's practical effects blood & gore, plenty of horror tropes & homages and the acting & audio is really cringey & bad. I love the Halloween 4-style opening credits homage scene. The first story was very talky talky with a cool looking devil, the second story has a lot of walking & fishing with a funny line by Felissa Rose about camping, both stories were okay. But the third story is the best entry and my fav, a man tormented since childhood by a zombie clown who looks creepy AF. The ringmaster & wraparound story were pretty good too. I love the pie in the face kill at the end boom! The wraparound and 3rd story has the best Halloween vibes, costumes and jack o lanterns. The 1st story has beautiful fall scenery, trees and autumn leaves." ★★★ @trickhorrortreater

"A horror anthology with a wrap around Halloween story. The sets and practical effects look good. There's detail to the cinematography and editing. The stories are okay. They all seem to have relation with the theme of going out into the woods. I kind of wish the story segments were related to Halloween, too, not just the wrapper story. Chuckle inducing CGI. Some of the acting is really good, some people are a bit stiff. We get to see Felissa Rose! Still, not bad. I like the wrapper story the best." ★★★ kaero seen at LetterBoxd.com
"There's nothing Halloween-y about this other than the Halloween 4 styled opening credits and the fact that this happens to take place on Halloween night. Unfortunately, Shriekshow turns out to be yet another collection of mediocre not-so-short films." ★★ EricYvon at LetterBoxd.com
"The acting in this one is uneven but not bad. In fact, I really enjoyed it for the most part... The stories for this one are a lot of fun but the film doesn't really deliver that Halloween vibe that it's going for... Sure, the wraparound segment is nestled nicely in a Halloween centered story but that is it... Finally, it wouldn't be a Fuzzy Monkey film if it didn't have some gnarly deaths and great practical effects. The deaths don't really stand out but the practical effects and gore look great. Indie horror fans will truly appreciate the hard work that went into pulling these off. Overall, Shriekshow is another fantastic film from Brad Twigg and Fuzzy Monkey Films... I wouldn't say it's essential viewing for Halloween but it's a horror anthology I would recommend for some late night chills." Rating – 3/5 HorrorSociety.com
"ShriekShow has blood, it has breasts and it has beasts — ergo two stars — the baseline standard for a drive-in flick fit for Halloween viewing." Ben Nagy at JoeBobBriggs.com
"This anthology may not have the biggest budget or sleekest production, but it's my kind of indie horror. The wraparound and festive opening credits deliver plenty of Halloween atmosphere, but (the first) two of the three stories are not Halloween themed (bummer), instead falling into the category of backwoods horror... 3rd story – a young man is still traumatized by a childhood birthday party that turned into a massacre. Eek! Tuesday Knight of Elm Street 4 plays his therapist, and the meds she gives him amplify his fear that the killer clown from that party is still out there. The clown is freaky cool, and there are several visuals that make it clear it's Halloween time." BoysBearsAndScares.com
"Twigg does a great job with his shot selection, never keeping the frame in one place for too long, and speckling the film with some great overhead shots... Shriekshow is stained with high quality kills that are studio quality. The effects team also gives birth to some absolutely terrific terror characters." Scream Score: 8.2/10 Horror-Nation.com
"Overall, Shriekshow is an enjoyable way to spend 105 minutes. As mentioned, I would have liked it better if it was shorter than that, but it works well enough at 105. Although the movie was obviously made on a very low budget, there were times when I was quite impressed by the cinematography; there are some cool camera moves and nice lighting choices... If you're a fan of anthologies and indie horror, Shriekshow is definitely worth checking out." LifeBetweenFrames.blogspot.com
"The directing by Brad Twigg is so good in Shriekshow. The sound is amazing, the pace of the film is never slow or dull. Although the movie is almost two hours long, it never feels like a chore watching it. It is entertaining from start to finish... Shriekshow, in my opinion, is his best movie, without question." Wow - that appears to be the worlds greatest haunt. I love the huge clown head arch doorway. They spent some money on sets that is for sure. Looks very promising indeed.
ReplyDeleteI liked all the jack o lanterns. The acting looks kinda bad but I'll still watch it.
