Jack-O's Review: "Great opening scene of a Halloween Party and a killer with a scarecrow mask after that, Halloween disappears and the film turns into a boring predictable crime mystery thriller about ghosts inside an insane asylum." ★★ @trickhorrortreater

"Wicked Season takes a familiar horror trope, ghost hunters in a haunted asylum, and replaces the paranormal investigators with a trio of cops." facebook.com/VoicesfromtheBalcony/
"This one opens strong on Halloween night. A woman leaves a Halloween party and hops in an Uber, only to find her driver wearing a scarecrow costume. Things do not go well for her... The detectives decide to go to the abandoned prison....There are a handful of different specters roaming the halls... The setting is great, and the camera work and lighting are spot on, but instead of focusing on the detectives being chased by the psychos, the film delves into a lot of procedural investigative stuff, and eventually it steps into the spooky spiritual realm, as if it has taken a slight turn into religious horror territory. I do like the discovery of how you stop these seemingly unstoppable ghosts, as well as the connection between a killer scarecrow... but I’m bummed that the film had such great killers at its disposal but instead focused on the otherworldly plot. The conclusion also seems to set us up for a very apocalyptic sequel." BoyBearsAndScares.com"Awkward and Tired. This movie tried to be haunting and clever but it simply wasn't. It was made with a modicum of professionalism, yes, but it wasn't anything impressive or original. Most of the acting performances were shaky, and the actors who were decent had to deliver lines that just didn't work. At first the movie seemed like it might be a right-wing Christian propaganda film, but having finished the film I actually don't think that's the case. It's just a movie that's trying to have heart but ultimately lacks it. I feel bad saying this, because it seems E. K. Spila really put his heart and soul into this movie -- he co-wrote the film and stars in it -- but I don't think his acting and his writing are quite ready for prime-time yet. I will credit the lighting and the cinematography, although there's an overuse of JJ Abrams-style lens flares that really is old hat. I also have to criticize the editing, which was poorly timed and led to confusion or laughter rather than jump-scares. The bottom line is that there are dozens of movies like this one that are much better." 3/10 greboguru at IMDb.com
"Here is a tip: Never get into a taxi or ride sharing service if you cannot see the driver's face. I don't care if it is Halloween. The movie gets points for how it handled the opening title card. It was a nice touch. The film is fairly run-of-the-mill. Slasher murder mystery. Serial killer creates a pentagram with his kills, He plans to get caught just so he can die and come back again with a Latin incantation, which raises more dead than just him. Sure we have seen it before -- but that doesn't mean it is a problem seeing it again. The familiar premise isn't the issue with this film. The main issue is that many of the ghosts are pretty dull or derivative. There are some exceptions, like the water ghost. The movie has its moments. They are few, but it has its moments." ★★ Shawn Griffiths at LetterBoxd.com
"Don’t get me wrong - this isn’t a remotely original film, it’s your standard cops investigate a bunch of killings with ties to older crimes which leads to a demonic ritual in an abandoned mental hospital gubbins. However, for a film made on a budget of a few pennies they found in the ashtray on the way to the shoot, and with a cast made up of “Temu version of hey it’s that guy” whose acting talent run from “surprisingly ok” to “yeesh” - this ain’t a half bad final product. I have definitely seen worse, but this is a solid example of working with the tools you have - which just adds to its overall charm." ★★★½ MrTheShane at LetterBoxd.com
"Yeah it's cheesy but I actually really fuck with this lol" ★★★ Mark W at LetterBoxd.com
